Christmas Tree

Farm

We are a small family concern and have been growing quality Christmas trees in Cornwall since 1994. Our 12 acres farm is home to over 8,000 trees.

This farm is our only retail outlet and buying direct from us guarantees that your tree is newly cut and as fresh as possible.

We have various types of Christmas trees at all stages of growth and all of them are low needle drop varieties.

All the trees have been planted by hand and are meticulously cared for throughout their lifespan which is normally between 8 and 10 years.

Careful hand pruning every year ensures beautifully shaped trees to suit any situation.

The approach to the farm

Choosing Your Christmas Tree

On arrival you will see a selection of freshly cut trees which are displayed on stands so that you can wander around and view them from every angle.

If you choose one of these, we will chop an inch off the trunk to give a really fresh cut, wrap it up in netting and load it into your car. Alternatively, if you prefer, we can deliver locally for a small charge.

‘Choose and cut’ has become very popular recently and can be a lovely family experience.

Take a walk through our growing fields and choose your ‘perfect tree’.

One of us will then cut it down and carry it to the sales area where we will net it and load it into your car.

Don’t forget your wellies if the weather is poor and please watch out for uneven ground — the bunnies tend to dig holes where we don’t want them!

Dogs on leads are welcome (we like dogs!).

We accept payment by card or cash.

Prices

Our trees are individually priced according to their size and shape.

Price tags are on all the display trees and are also on many of the trees still growing in the fields that we consider to be ready.

All trees can be purchased, priced or not, simply ask us to measure and price one up and decide if you would like us to cut it for you.

Sometimes there are a few trees over 6ft that are ‘not quite perfect’, perhaps with a missing branch on one side or a wonky top (it’s not their fault, so why not give them a home in a corner?). They will be individually reduced in price and tagged accordingly.

Christmas Tree Types

All our trees are low needle drop Firs or Pines.

Nordmann Fir

Now the most popular tree, it has dark green, glossy leaves and a lovely, full shape which is very similar to a traditional Norway Spruce.

Fraser Fir

Deservedly catching up in popularity, these have smaller blue needles which are silver-grey underneath. They are very fragrant, have good needle retention and are trimmed to a pleasing narrow shape.

Lodgepole Pine

Very popular in northern counties, these trees have very long green needles and are trimmed to a dense bushy shape. They have strong branches which decorate easily. Needle retention is excellent.

Pot Grown Trees

We have a selection of small Nordmann and Fraser Fir trees which are growing in pots, suitable for planting in the garden.

Tree Stands

The stands that we have for sale are chosen for their water holding capacity (4 litres) and their ease of use.

Christmas Wreaths

We make all our own wreaths from freshly cut foliage and have many arrangements available for door decoration, or to place on graves.

Thinking of our environment

Buying your tree from a local source means

  • No lengthy transport
  • No imports
  • No storage
  • No stale Christmas trees

Our trees are grown as a sustainable crop, planted by hand and harvested in rotation, as one is sold another one is planted in its place.

During its life of 8 to 10 years on our farm, each tree works hard to absorb carbon dioxide and give us oxygen in return. A win win!

The plantation provides a constant, relatively undisturbed habitat for wildlife which, to our delight, has improved year on year. We have also created woodland copses and ponds which are now teeming with life.

We have a few deer, foxes and badgers which you may find evidence of, they like to shelter in the cover of the trees. Bees, grasshoppers and other insects enjoy the lush growth under the trees along with mice, voles and frogs. This has attracted more hawks, owls and herons which we are really proud of.

The Carbon Trust have stated that a locally bought Christmas tree, disposed of by chipping or burning has a carbon footprint which is less than one tenth of an artificial tree.

We use oxy-biodegradable netting to wrap our trees, it is made from plant starch which breaks down completely and can be disposed of with normal waste.

Please don’t leave it in the garden or compost heap though, as it is still a hazard to wildlife such as birds and small mammals before it degrades.
